Steering Committee Goals

The overall goal of the WNYCCP is to transform to a recovery system of care, which is person-centered and person-driven, much like the six goals of the President's New Freedom Commission on Mental Health. In fact, the program description document refers to the relationships between providers and consumers as based on "the principles of person-centeredness, person-centered planning, and recovery."

Steering Committee co-chair, Robert Long, says a substantial investment has been made in person-centered training, with 6-14 days of training supported by the Office of Mental Health; and, parallel to person-centered training for staff, is training for organizations on how to be more "person-centered friendly." While the concept of person-centeredness raises concerns about risk management, a person-centered planning video (accessible on the Home page) provides a brief introduction to person-centered planning and how it works has been developed to address this.
